Top 5 Favorite Books

  1. Normal People by Sally Rooney

This book is in my top 5 because it was one of the books that sparked my interest in reading again and the impact it had on my life in that moment. I can see why some people absolutely hate this book, but for me it was just so relatable that it hit me right in the chest. The way that the characters were never really on the same page so that meant that they were never able to be together. It was the perfect definition of right person wrong time. The idea that every book typically ends in a happily ever after can get extremely boring, like sometimes I want a book that will make me ball my eyes out. This one did not necessarily make me ball my eyes out, but it left me feeling empty and heartbroken for the characters. So, if you like books that are told in third person, have many miscommunicated conversations between characters, and very realistic endings, then this book is for you. (Also after you read it you should watch the show on hulu right after!!)

  2. Beach Read by Emily Henry

This was the first book I read from Emily Henry and it started my absolute obsession with her. Reading Beach Read was an experience I wish I could go back and do it all over again. The best thing I personally. think about this book was how it was so much more than just a romance, but a book of a self discovery. It dives into dealing with a loss of a parent, failed relationships, and the struggle to open up to a new person. The process of reading the relationship develop between Gus and January was utterly breathtaking. It is like you can physically feel the angst that is burning between the two. They may appear to be polar opposites who write about two completely different things, but overall they both just want to be rid of their loneliness. I highly recommend this book to absolutely anyone who is interested in starting to read, but make sure to look up the trigger warnings just in case! I hope if you haven’t already read this book that you will immediately pick it up and dive right in.

  3. Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This was my first time reading about a retelling of the Greeks and it definitely lived up to the hype around it. This book takes you through the beautiful relationship between Achilles and Patroclus. The main message that I got from this book was how much war and conflict can change people. We are shown how Achilles is prior to the war over Troy, but after all that happened, he is depicted in the complete opposite way. If I went into further details about this I would be spoiling the book, but just know that it was absolutely gut wrenching to read the ending of this book. I am almost 100% sure that I cried for days after finishing this book, like I could not stop thinking about it.

If you don’t particularly like reading about the Greeks or any type of retellings, this book might not be for you.

  4. Powerless by Lauren Roberts

I was a little hesitant to read this book because there was so much hype around it and I was very scared that I would be disappointed. I have never been more glad to be wrong in my life, this book should be put under the literal definition of perfection. This was Lauren Roberts’ debut novel and absolute props to her on writing something that would take over the book community. This book has been compared to the Hunger Games but with a little magic in it. We have enemies to lovers, so much tension, and slightly sensing a little love triangle. I am literally twiddling with my thumbs in anticipation for the next book to come out. There are so many unanswered questions that I need to find out, so Lauren please give us something soon! If you are very much into fantasy, you should add this to your tbr right away!

  5. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

This was another one of the first couple of books that started my love for reading back up. It was cute romcom about childhood friends to lovers and second chance romance. I am an absolute sucker for both of these tropes, so that’s another reason to my love for this book. We see the main issue to be miscommunication between our two main characters, Macy and Elliot. (So if you don’t particularly like reading about miscommunication, this book might not be for you). I enjoyed how this book went from past to present to show how they were and where they are now, it was like reading two stories at once. This may have been a typical romance story, but just the way it was written really pulled me in. They both have to overcome things from their past in order to reconcile and get to their HEA.
